The Avenue Craft Club was set up to promote various craftwork. It provides a meeting place for those wishing to work with their hands and an opportunity to learn new skills from one another. Members can bring their own work or participate in whatever activity has been arranged. It is also a time of fellowship and support for all who attend.
At the beginning of this year a decision was made that members of the Avenue Craft Club would make articles for various charities supporting children both in the UK and abroad. So far:
Knitted teddies in bags, jumpers and vests have been made and given for children in Africa.
The charity Tools with a Mission has been supported by the donation of embroidered fleeces and Tshirts. For the same cause buttons and fabrics have been sorted and these will be used in making up sewing kits that accompany donated sewing machines. Also squares are being knitted to make up blankets.
Small quilts have been made for Project Linus. These have been given for Derriford and Royal Devon and Exeter Premature Baby Units. Larger quilts are being made to be distributed to any child in need of comfort due to sickness, disability, bereavement or other family circumstance.
Members also make items for sale at the Christmas Market each year eg cards, aprons, Christmas decorations, bags.
